Slow Signs of Aging With a Lower Facelift + Neck Lift Combo

FACIAL REJUVENATION AND THE SIGNS OF AGING

Patients can counteract the signs of aging and look younger and refreshed with a lower facelift and neck lift.

As we all know, sun exposure, environmental agents, smoking, and the natural aging process can all cause skin to sag, especially in the mid-face and neck.

Over time, men and women may develop deep folds that extend from the nose to the corner of the mouth, jowls, and loose skin around the neck.

Volume loss is another factor that can result in a deflated and drooping appearance, as fat in the mid-face slowly slides downwards.

The combination of a lower facelift and neck lift corrects sagging by vertically lifting and repositioning skin for a fuller, rather than stretched, effect.

So, can a lower facelift and neck lift help you turn back the clock? Here’s everything you need to know about achieving natural results with this combined surgery.

HOW IS A LOWER FACELIFT AND NECK LIFT PERFORMED?

Patients undergoing a lower facelift and neck lift can expect to be in surgery for approximately 3 hours.

The procedure starts with one incision in the ear cartilage and one incisions behind the ear as access points for the lower facelift. Skin and fat are then lifted vertically, and the fascia is tightened.

Next, an incision is make under the chin in order to allow a gathering of sling muscles in the neck. This technique is used to eliminate vertical neck banding, which is one of the hallmark signs of aging.

Finally, fat is trimmed, excess skin is removed, and permanent sutures are placed to maintain the lifted positions of the face and neck. A drain will also be inserted to remove fluids.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER A LOWER FACELIFT AND NECK LIFT?

After a lower facelift and neck lift, patients may experience bruising and swelling for 7-10 days. The application of ice and sleeping in an upright position can help reduce the severity and duration of these effects.

Additionally, any pain or discomfort can be managed with prescription medication.

Within 2-3 days, individuals will follow-up with their surgeon, and surgical drains will be removed at this time.

WHEN CAN PATIENTS RESUME NORMAL ACTIVITIES?

Dr. Rostami will provide thorough post-operative instructions, including those regarding activity.

Typically, patients can return to social engagements and work in 7-10 days once swelling subsides, and they are also able to use makeup to cover any remaining bruising.

Brisk walking is permitted within 2 weeks and aerobic activity can be resumed after 4-6 weeks.
