Botox® Q&A

What is Botox®?

Botox is a neurotoxin that temporarily weakens or paralyzes specific muscles by blocking nerve signals. While it’s best known as an anti-aging injection, Botox is also used to treat medical conditions, including hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), chronic migraines, and overactive bladder.

At Rostami OPC, the doctors use Botox to correct moderate-to-severe crow’s feet, horizontal forehead lines, and glabellar lines. They also provide off-label uses for Botox, including treatment of:

  • Gummy smiles
  • Downturned corners of the mouth
  • Droopy brows
  • Platysmal bands in the neck

In addition to BOTOX® Cosmetic, the team at Rostami OPC also uses other brands of Botox, including Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau®.

How does Botox work?

Dr. Rostami injects the Botox into targeted facial muscles with a very fine needle. The Botox then binds to nerve receptors in the muscle and blocks the signals that trigger muscle contractions.

As a result, your treated muscle is temporarily unable to contract and wrinkle the skin, allowing the corresponding lines and creases to relax so your skin remains smooth.

At Rostami OPC, you’re in the hands of experienced surgeons, so you’re not getting cookie cutter injections. The doctors know the various functions of the different muscles in your face, and they carefully place injections to address the muscles responsible for your lines and creases.

What happens during Botox treatment?

Prior to your Botox treatment, Dr. Rostami conducts a comprehensive evaluation to determine the best treatment to meet your beauty needs.

Then, based on your concerns, goals, facial anatomy, and unique characteristics, they customize a treatment plan just for you.

On the day of your Botox injections, the doctor cleans your skin and applies a numbing agent to minimize discomfort. Next, they precisely administer your Botox as a series of small injections.

The process typically takes 15-20 minutes, and you can resume your usual activities after treatment.

How long do Botox treatments last?

There are a number of factors that influence the longevity of your treatment. However, you can expect Botox to keep your lines and creases away for 3-4 months.

Once you start to notice the effects of your cosmetic treatment wearing off, the doctors recommend that you return to the office for another series of injections.
