Neck Lift Q&A

What is a neck lift?

A neck lift involves recontouring and reshaping the skin beneath your chin and on your neck. The procedure creates a more youthful and defined jaw and neck. A neck lift can correct wrinkling and creases, sagging skin, and extra tissue.

What types of issues can a neck lift address?

The doctors at Rostami OPC individualize your neck lift to address issues such as:

  • Loose skin
  • Excess fat
  • Weak muscle bands
  • Crepey skin
  • Turkey neck
  • Double chin

If you’re bothered by any of these complaints, contact the practice to learn how a neck lift could help you.

What happens during a neck lift?

ou’re placed under local anesthesia and IV sedation for your neck lift procedure. You’re able to breathe on your own but feel nothing.

Your customized neck lift may include:

  • Liposuction to remove excess fatty deposits
  • Removal of excess skin
  • Repositioning of remaining skin
  • Skin tightening

The doctors may make incisions under the ear, along the front side of the ear, beneath the chin, and behind the ear into the hair. Exactly where you receive incisions depends on your particular procedure.

The entire neck lift procedure takes about two hours.

What should I expect during recovery from a neck lift?

Following a neck lift, you will have some mild-to-moderate discomfort that can usually be managed with pain medication. You’ll wear a compression bandage around the treated area for about two weeks. Expect to see some bruising and swelling, which subsides within about two weeks.

You receive complete aftercare instructions before leaving the office. It’s recommended that for at least a week you sleep on your back with your head, neck, and shoulders elevated to help minimize swelling.

Plan to return to work in about two weeks. You may also resume travel and light exercise at this time. The doctors will let you know when you can return to all normal activities, including vigorous exercise.
