Preventative Botox: is Prejuvenation Right for You?

People are getting Botox earlier and earlier, but is it worth it? Experts debate each other on this topic: does prejuvenation work?

HOW PREJUVENATION WORKS

Here’s the skinny: Botox has a cumulative effect. The more you use it, the more it helps prevent wrinkles.

Why is this? Well, there are two reasons. The first reason is that the muscles “learn” to relax. The more you apply Botox, the more the relaxant effect works. The second reason is that Botox stops you from creating the fissures in the first place.

Essentially, our body stops producing collagen at 25. At age 30, we actually start to lose volume in the face. That’s what the wrinkles are: the fissures that have been forming in our face from lost collagen volume.

And that’s why the age of 25 is such a debated topic among experts. Some experts see it as way too premature to be getting Botox injections at 25. But other experts think this might be the ideal time.

After all, if you get Botox before fissures even form, imagine how young you’ll be looking in your 30s, 40s, and 50s?

WHY SHOULDN’T I GET BOTOX SO EARLY?

Some experts believe that when you’re young, you should have full expression of your face, and they worry that Botox may minimize this expression.

While frozen face is largely not a fear, it is true that Botox does fundamentally work as a paralyzing agent.

Besides that, it’s simply an expensive procedure, and perhaps not the best investment for young people — even if their goal is to stay looking young. For example, many individuals could get a lot of mileage simply out of consistently applying sunscreen to their face — possibly the best anti-aging measure anyone can take, because it will actually stop the skin from aging rather than simply preventing the appearance of aging.

There are many sides to the debate, but, ultimately, more and more individuals are going in for Prejuvenation.
