Is Botox Safe? The Details You Should Know

Trust goes a long way, but when it comes to our own health a little bit of skepticism and prudence can go an even longer way.

Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures there is (it certainly breaks the top 5, if not being the most popular period), but more than a few people have their concerns with the procedure.

“Neuromodulator? Neurotoxin? Wha?” is how more than a few people react to it.

HOW CAN A NEUROTOXIN BE SAFE?

Long story short, we use small doses of Botox. Extremely small. While Botox is in fact an agent that blocks signals between nerve, muscle and brain, that’s exactly what we want it to do.

In any cosmetic dosage, Botox is not only perfectly safe but also largely free from side effects. The vast majority of reported side effects from Botox actually come from already existing underlying conditions.

Botox is an eminently safe drug that, even if all you’re worried about is not quite liking the look of your face after treatment, comes with a builtin shelf life. That means you have the option to maintain your Botox or simply let it drop.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN FOR ME AS A CONSUMER?

Now the big caveat on all of this is that you should only get Botox treatments from certified doctors who know what they’re doing. Besides the risk of botched procedures in which the dose is too high, by getting Botox from a shady practice you also run the risk of not getting Botox at all.

The long story short is that when it comes to injectables, make sure you know what you’re getting. If it makes you feel more comfortable, be sure to ask your doctor whatever questions you might have about what you’re getting and the potency of it. It’s their job to know.
