FDA Approves Cannula for Lip Injections

No longer does anybody in the market for lip augmentation have to settle for hyaluronic acid dermal filler by way of a needle. The FDA announced their approval of the use of a blunt-tip cannula with Restylane Silk.

Restylane Silk was created by the dermatology company Galderma with lip augmentation in mind. Prospective patients have options when it comes to Restylane.

Galderma’s vice president of U.S. Aesthetic & Corrective business Alisa Lask says the company prides itself in offering the broadest selection of hyaluronic acid filler, including Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne.

Galderma released a statement that gave a quick glance at the extensive study that earned them the FDA’s approval:

“The 12-week study took place in four centers across the U.S., with 60 male and female subjects 23 years of age or older. At 12 weeks, 98 percent of subjects were observed to have improvement in both the upper and lower lip by the treating investigator, as assessed by the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS), a global 7-point scale for aesthetic improvement in appearance. Following treatment, no severe related adverse events were observed.”

A dermatologist Joshua Zeichner, out of New York, says the news makes the lip-plumping process all that much easier for him and patients alike.

He prefers the cannula over the needle, because of the tool’s blunt tip compared to the sharp edge of a needle. “Because of this, it may be associated with less potential damage to blood vessels, may help minimize bruising, and can decrease swelling,” he says. Which all means less down time for you.
