Facelift or Forehead Lift: Which One is Right for You?

If you are bothered by sagging cheeks, jowls, and drooping eyebrows, you may be considering a lifting procedure to restore natural facial contours and rejuvenate your appearance. In fact, many patients that are concerned with signs of aging contemplate a facelift or forehead lift to achieve a more youthful look.

But the question then becomes, which one is right for you?

Here’s some helpful information about each procedure in order to initiate an informed conversation with a plastic surgeon about your goals and treatment options.

WHAT IS A FACELIFT?

facelift is a surgical procedure that can address a multitude of concerns related to aging. The treatment is highly customizable and can correct issues that span from the cheeks all the way to the neck. These may include decreased elasticity and firmness, volume loss, creases, wrinkles, jowls, and sagging.

A facelift is performed by making an incision in the hairline, by the temples, that extends behind the ear to the lower scalp. Then, a skilled and talented plastic surgeon is able to sculpt fat, reposition skin and tissue, redrape skin over new facial contours, and trim away excess skin.

As a result, patients achieve smoother, tighter skin in the mid and lower face and look younger and more vibrant.

WHAT IS A FOREHEAD LIFT?

Although a facelift can correct a large surface area of the face, it doesn’t include the forehead.

Accordingly, a forehead lift may be recommended for signs of aging that present in the area from the cheekbone to the brow. These may include:

Droopy brows, hooding of eyes, furrowed forehead, wrinkling on the nose, horizontal brow lines, and vertical frown lines.

A forehead lift is often performed endoscopically, with an incision in the scalp. This minimally-invasive technique allows a plastic surgeon to remove excess skin and tissue, modify muscles, and tighten skin, for a more lifted and pleasant appearance to the brows.
