Restylane Vs. Juvederm: is One Filler Better Than the Other?

Today’s dermal fillers offer individuals a variety of ways to combat aging and enhance their facial features and structure. Many of these filler injectables are made of hyaluronic acid and are a part of the Juvederm or Restylane family of fillers.

With multiple options in each of these lines, it can sometimes be difficult for patients to understand the differences and benefits of each product. As a result, they often ask if Restylane or Juvederm is better.

WHAT ARE HYALURONIC ACID FILLERS?

Hyaluronic acid is a substance that’s naturally produced by the body and is considered to be hydrophilic, meaning water loving. When injected into facial areas, hyaluronic acid pulls in water and provides plumping and volume enhancement.

Additionally, the effects of hyaluronic acid can be reversed with an enzyme known hyaluronidase. It can be helpful for making minor adjustments to filler results or completely dissolving the product if necessary.

WHY WOULD AN INJECTOR USE RESTYLANE VS. JUVEDERM?

Restylane and Juvederm offer products to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles, volume loss in the cheeks, lip augmentation, and lip refinement.

Both injectables are also FDA-approved and provide safe and effective results. Therefore, the decision to use one brand over the other may depend on the injector’s preference, expertise, and comfort with each product and the area that is being treated.

RESTYLANE LINE OF PRODUCTS

Restylane was the first hyaluronic acid filler on the market and is manufactured by Galderma. Each filler in this family has its own unique capabilities and may vary based on particle size, depth of penetration, and duration of results.

Restylane classic, Restylane Lyft, and Restylane Refyne and Defyne are FDA-approved to treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds.

Restylane Lyft can improve the appearance of hallow or sagging cheeks.

Additionally, Restylane can add volume to the lips for a softer and plumper appearance. While smoothing of fine lines around the mouth can be accomplished using Restylane Silk.

JUVEDERM FAMILY OF DERMAL FILLERS

Juvederm is produced by Allergan, the company that’s also responsible for wrinkle-fighting Botox. This diverse collection of dermal fillers can be used to customize treatment to each patient’s goals and facial anatomy.

For moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles, Juvederm Vollure XC can be injected to smooth and refresh skin.

Juvederm Voluma XC is used to treat age-related volume loss in the cheeks.

Juvederm Ultra XC was created to plump lips for added fullness. For a subtler lip enhancement or to soften lines around the mouth, Juvederm Volbella delivers natural results.
