Get Rid of Your Double Chin Once and For All

Get Rid of Your Double Chin Once and For All

If you have a double chin, you know how dramatically it can change the shape of your face. Even if the rest of your body is slim and toned, a double chin can make you look a lot heavier than you really are — and a lot older too.

In fact, a recent survey found that about half of adults are unhappy with the fat under their chin. Worse, the same survey found double chins tend to get a lot more attention in women than in men.

Fortunately, a double chin isn’t as hard to get rid of as you might think. Soheila Rostami, MD, and the team at Rostami OPC offer several effective solutions for getting rid of that double chin — for good.

3 options for eliminating that pesky double chin

While some practices offer a single solution for eliminating chin fat (also called submental fat), Dr. Rostami offers three state-of-the-art techniques at her Reston, Virginia, practice. That means she can offer a truly customized solution based on each patient’s unique chin structure, facial anatomy, and goals.

Here’s a comparison of those three options: Kybella®, liposuction, and CoolSculpting®.

Kybella

Kybella is the most recently introduced method of eliminating stubborn double-chin fat deposits. This technique uses carefully placed injections to deliver a special solution designed to melt away chin fat.

That patented solution uses a purified, synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, an acid that’s naturally produced by your liver. During digestion, this acid helps break down fats in the foods you eat.

When injected as part of a Kybella treatment program, the acid works in a similar way to break down the fatty tissue under your chin.

Kybella isn’t a surgical procedure, so there are no incisions, sutures, or scars to worry about. After your injections dissolve your fat cells, the debris is carried away by your body over the next few weeks.

Plus, your treatment is completely customizable and based on the results you want to see. You might decide to start out with just a few injections to gauge your results, and then fine-tune it with “touch-up” treatments to achieve sleeker contours.

Liposuction

Most people think of liposuction for getting rid of larger areas of fat in their bellies, butts, or thighs. But liposuction can also be used in small, isolated areas of fat, including the area under your chin.

With liposuction, Dr. Rostami makes a tiny incision under your chin, so she can insert the small liposuction probe. The probe infuses fluid to help break apart fatty deposits before gently suctioning fat away.

Liposuction is performed right in the office as an outpatient procedure. In addition to “traditional” liposuction, Dr. Rostami offers laser-assisted liposuction for even more precise results.

CoolSculpting

Finally, if you’re looking for a noninvasive treatment for your double chin that doesn’t require injections or surgery, CoolSculpting could be a good option. CoolSculpting delivers “cold energy” directly to the fatty deposits.

The cold energy weakens fat cells, breaking down cell walls so fat is liquefied. Then over the following few weeks, your body absorbs and disposes of the fatty debris, leaving smoother contours behind.

Like liposuction, CoolSculpting is also used to get rid of fat in other areas of your body. For double chin treatments, Dr. Rostami uses a smaller handpiece for more control and greater precision in the smaller pockets of trapped fat.

Choosing the right option for you

No matter what method is used, the goal of under-chin treatment is the same: eliminate stubborn fat to reveal smoother, slimmer, more youthful contours. Still, each approach offers specific benefits, and Dr. Rostami can help you decide on the best approach to help you reach your goals.
