Microneedling With PRP: Platelet-rich Plasma for the Win

MICRONEEDLING WITH PRP RESTON

Several years ago, Kim Kardashian posted a photo to social media, displaying her blood-stained face after a cosmetic procedure known as the Vampire Facial. This image sent the internet into a frenzy, and everyone wanted to know exactly what she had done.

Subsequently, it was revealed that Kim underwent a PRP Facial to boost collagen and rejuvenate her skin.

The treatment quickly became a patient favorite and has been in high-demand ever since.

Nevertheless, there’s more to microneedling with PRP than just being a treatment featured on ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians.’ That’s why we’ve created a microneedling with PRP 101 guide.

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING WITH PRP?

Microneedling with PRP is a branded named for a non-invasive treatment that uses the patient’s own blood to improve skin tone and texture.

It’s also called a PRP (platelet-rich plasma) Facial, as the blood sample is placed in a centrifuge to separate out the plasma portion.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

This procedure targets PRP because it contains an abundance of platelets and growth factors that initiate a wound healing response when re-injected into the skin.

In other words, PRP tricks the body into thinking that it’s injured and in need of repair.

This mechanism paired with growth factors help to stimulate collagen and remodel skin that may be wrinkled, discolored, dull, rough, or scarred.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM MICRONEEDLING WITH PRP?

Typically, the face is cleansed and then numbed with a topical anesthetic prior to the procedure. A blood sample is also drawn to extract the PRP.

Next, microneedling may be performed to create microscopic injuries in the skin, which trigger cellular regeneration and repair. This part of the process employs ultra-fine needles of varying lengths that feel like small pinpricks.

Lastly, PRP is re-injected to the skin and readily absorbed by the newly created microchannels.

WHEN CAN PATIENTS SEE RESULTS?

Soon after microneedling with PRP, the skin appears plumper and brighter and feels softer. Patients may also note increased efficacy of their serums, topicals, and creams, as the procedure allows deeper penetration of products.

Treatment results continue to improve over time and ultimately produce brighter, clearer, firmer, and tighter skin.
