Eyelid Surgery Post Op: What to Expect + Recovery Tips

BLEPHAROPLASTY NORTHERN VIRGINIA

Prior to undergoing eyelid surgery in Northern Virginia, it’s important that patients understand the procedure, have realistic expectations of results, and are well-prepared for the recovery process.

While most patients experience minimal pain and little downtime following blepharoplasty in Northern Virginia, this information will assist in your post-operative planning, minimize complications, and maximize treatment benefits.

Here’s what to expect from eyelid surgery in Northern Virginia and tips for recovery.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM EYELID SURGERY RECOVERY?

Patients often find that the first 2-3 days after eyelid surgery are the most uncomfortable. During this time, they may experience nausea from general anesthesia, bruising, swelling, eye tightness and tenderness, blurred vision, and itching at incision sites. Any discomfort can typically be managed with oral pain medication.

After the first week, some bruising and swelling may persist, but discomfort will be minimal. Patients should continue to limit activities that can cause ocular dryness, including reading, watching TV, and using the computer.

Within 10 days of undergoing eyelid surgery, most people are able to return to work and normal daily activities. However, strenuous exercise should be avoided.

The use of contact lenses and makeup may be resumed after 2-3 weeks. Final results typically become evident by 4-6 weeks.

TIPS FOR BLEPHAROPLASTY RECOVERY

There are several ways that patients can promote proper healing and ensure a smooth recovery from eyelid surgery.

To start, it’s essential that you carefully follow all of Dr. Rostami or Dr. Naz’s post-op instructions and attend scheduled follow-up appointments.

Additionally, patients should plan to take enough time off from work to rest and ask a friend, family member, or spouse for help during the first week of recovery.

Keeping your head elevated and applying cold compresses for 2-3 days after surgery can also significantly reduce swelling and bruising.

Finally, patients should take care to avoid activities that could interfere with recovery, including drinking alcohol, smoking, exertion, and wearing contact lenses.
