Dysport or Botox: Which One is Best for You?

Once women and men make the decision to rejuvenate and enhance their appearance with neurotoxin injections, they are faced with choosing between two popular products – Dysport or Botox.

Although they are both designed to diminish wrinkles and lines and have the same mechanism of action, they have some unique properties to consider.

So, when it comes to Dysport or Botox: Which one is better for you?

To make a well-informed decision, continue reading to learn about the similarities and differences between the two top neurotoxins.

HOW ARE DYSPORT AND BOTOX SIMILAR?

Dysport and Botox are both comprised of botulinum toxin type A and work by temporarily weakening or paralyzing overactive muscles. In doing so, these neuromodulators prevent muscle contractions and stop skin from wrinkling for a period of 3-6 months.

The two FDA-approved neuromodulators are also able to treat the same areas of concern, including horizontal forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet.

DYSPORT OR BOTOX: WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES?

Now for the differences. Dysport is a more-diluted product. Accordingly, roughly 3 units of Dysport are comparable to 1 unit of Botox.

However, this distinction also means Dysport offers greater diffusion, making it ideal for treatment of larger areas like the forehead. Increased spreadability also results in fewer injections during treatment.

With that being said, Botox may be better-suited to targeting fine lines and more discrete wrinkles like those around the eyes.

If you are choosing between Dysport or Botox, you may also want to consider each product’s onset. While Dysport typically takes effect within 12-72 hours, Botox results begin to emerge within 3-5 days.
