Recovery from rhinoplasty involves some swelling and bruising around the eyes and nose, which will start to improve within a few days. Most patients feel ready to return to work or school after one to two weeks. We will provide detailed aftercare instructions, including how to care for your nose post-surgery, medications to aid healing and reduce the risk of infection, and when to follow up with our surgeons.

How long does a typical rhinoplasty procedure take, and what type of anesthesia is used?

Depending on how extensive the procedure is and the results you’re looking for, the rhinoplasty surgery can take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours. Before the procedure begins, we generally administer general anesthesia to ensure you’re comfortable.

Will I have visible scars after rhinoplasty?

Whether you have visible scars or not will depend on the type of rhinoplasty performed. With an open rhinoplasty, you may have some visible scarring, but the incisions will be placed in as inconspicuous an area as possible. With a closed rhinoplasty, all the incisions are made inside the nose, so you won’t have any visible scarring.

What should I expect during rhinoplasty recovery, and how long does swelling last?

During your rhinoplasty recovery, you can expect some discomfort, swelling, and bruising, but those side effects will subside within 2-3 weeks. You’ll want to take 1-2 weeks off work to properly rest and recover, avoid strenuous activity, and take any prescribed medication as directed.

When can I return to work, school, or regular activities post-surgery?

Most patients can return to work and school within 1-2 weeks after surgery. For more physically-demanding jobs and strenuous activities, we typically recommend waiting 4-8 weeks. That said, it can depend greatly on your individual healing process.

What aftercare instructions will I need to follow after rhinoplasty at Rostami OPC?

To start the recovery process, we recommend resting as much as possible. You’ll want to keep your head elevated when lying down, apply cold compresses to reduce swelling, and avoid any strenuous activity. You can begin light activity within a few days of your surgery, but you will still need to avoid sun exposure, smoking, and alcohol use for up to three weeks after your procedure.

How soon will I see the final results after rhinoplasty, and are the changes permanent?

It can take up to a full year before you see the final results of your rhinoplasty. The final results are considered permanent, but the natural aging process can make slight changes to the nose.
