Is the Noninvasive “thread Lift” the New Facelift?

Patients with skin laxity often want the results of a face lift without the downtime and risks associated with surgery. For these individuals, the improved thread lift may be an excellent treatment option.

Nova Threads and Silhouette Instalift are two new thread lift procedures. Both of these treatments can be performed in less than an hour and offer advanced technology compared to the original thread lift.

WHAT IS A THREAD LIFT?

This non-surgical treatment uses absorbable sutures to lift areas of loose skin on the face and neck. The threads are made of biodegradable polymers and have tiny cones that tighten and stimulate collagen when placed under the skin.

HOW NOVA THREADS AND SILHOUETTE INSTALIFT ARE DIFFERENT FROM THE ORIGINAL THREAD LIFT

The original thread lift, popularized in the late 90’s, used permanent barbed sutures to lift and tighten the skin around the brows and cheeks.

These sutures had to be anchored to the scalp, temples, and brows, and because they were permanent, made any future cosmetic procedures more difficult.

Additionally, these sutures could only pull the skin in one direction, resulting in a two- dimensional appearance.

In contrast, Nova Threads and Silhouette Instalift offer an absorbable suture lift rather than a thread lift. These fully absorbable sutures can also lift the skin in two directions, providing a three-dimensional look.

NEW AND IMPROVED THREAD LIFT VS. FILLERS

Before the new and improved thread lift, the liquid facelift with fillers was the most popular alternative to a surgical facelift.

The thread lift and liquid facelift can both be performed in about an hour. The thread lift requires approximately 1-2 days of downtime and results can last between 18 months and a few years.

Furthermore, the results of Nova Threads or Silhouette Instalift can improve over time because the suture cones stimulate collagen.

However, rather than replacing fillers, the thread lift is best performed in combination with them. Physicians are finding that fillers and other non-invasive treatments enhance and prolong the results of a thread lift.
