Evisceration refers to partial removal of the eye. This is undertaken in certain instances where the eye needs to be removed, however the outer shell of the eye and optic nerve can be preserved. An orbital implant is generally placed in the remaining socket and an ocular prosthesis is later made for cosmesis.
