WHAT IS DOUBLE EYELID SURGERY?

A double blepharoplasty in Reston, Northern Virginia, is a cosmetic procedure that creates a visible crease or fold in the upper eyelid when the eyes are open.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A DOUBLE BLEPHAROPLASTY?

Many patients seek double eyelid surgery in Reston, VA, to achieve a more open and alert appearance to the eyes. Age and the amount of extra fat and skin under the upper eyelid are important factors that must be considered when developing a customized surgical plan.

HOW IS DOUBLE EYELID SURGERY PERFORMED?

There are two approaches to a double blepharoplasty: Non-incisional and incisional.

The non-incisional approach is used when the patient has an insufficient amount of fat and skin under the upper eyelid. It’s performed by creating small openings in the skin and passing a stitch through to attach the upper eyelid skin to the underlying levator muscle.

An incisional approach involves making an incision in the upper eyelid area and removing a small volume of fat.

Both types of surgery are completed with local anesthesia and IV sedation. Treatment time is approximately 1 hour.

WHAT CAN PATIENTS EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT?

After undergoing a double blepharoplasty, patients are able to return home to rest and recover. It’s not uncommon to experience swelling in the eyelid area, which may take several months to a year to fully subside.

Stitches are typically removed 1 week post-procedure.
