Orbital Fractures Reston

Orbital Fractures:

The eyeball and its surrounding structures are protected by a wall made up of several bones called the orbit. Trauma to the eye/face can cause a fracture in one of the walls/bones.

In some cases, the muscle that controls eye movement can get trapped in the fracture and cause a muscle entrapment. This can lead to double vision, which can be permanent if not treated in a timely manner.

The fractures can usually be seen by imaging (CAT scan), however a clinical evaluation by one of our trained oculofacial plastic surgeons is necessary to determine if muscle entrapment exists. In certain cases, surgical repair of the fracture may be necessary.
